Q: I was told by the owner of the pet supply shop go to that it is a good idea to rotate dog food every three months, so I have been looking into other foods I can add in to the rotation. Do you recommend rotating foods? I have done some online digging and have read that it is a good idea, but would be curious to hear what your thoughts are.
A: I know there are people who like to change foods every so often, but I am not one of them. I don’t know if they do it because they think it will make up for any deficiencies that one food might have over another, or if they think their dog needs variety.
I am one of those people that like to stick with something that works. It eliminates the possibility of intestinal upset every time you switch. I also worry that if I switch too often, I’ll create a picky eater with my dog. I never have believed that I needed to “fix” something if it wasn’t broken in the first place.
